International and Intercultural Week 2017 - Applied Social Studies

The next International and Intercultural Week (IIW2017) at VIVES – Applied Social Studies, Campus Kortrijk will be held from from 27 March to 30 March 2017.

Call for proposals

Abstract Submission online until 15 January 2017. Notification of Abstract acceptance: 31 January 2017. The main theme of this year’s IIW is Human Rights. As guest lecturer, you are kindly invited to present a Human rights-related topic to our third year students in Applied Psychology, Public Safety, Social Work and Socio-Educational Care Work. We ask you to focus your contribution around one of these themes:

  • Human Rights;
  • Children’s’ rights;
  • Social justice and human rights;
  • Citizenship and human rights;
  • Poverty and human rights;
  • Sustainability and human rights;
  • Entrepreneurship and human rights;
  • Globalisation and human rights;
  • Indigenization and human rights;
  • Inclusion and human rights;
  • Refugees and human rights;
  • Global awareness and human rights;
  • Global engagement and human rights;
  • Dealing with difficulties and  conflicts in human relations;
  • Pychosocial and/or psychotherapeutic interventions;
  • ....

We want to let students get into contact with those themes abroad. Your lecture or practical and interactive workshop is a 90 minute seminar introducing your topic and can contain:

  • views
  • (good) practices
  • interactive and creative methods
  • ...

Lectures, workshops,… 

Each day we program a variety of keynote lectures and optional sessions on one of the themes above which you can also attend. During these days we will offer our students and international  guests a choice of lectures, sessions and workshops. The programme will be scheduled to groups of about 15 to 40 students from all 4 educations (Bachelor of Applied Psychology, Bachelor of Public Safety Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Socio-educational Care Work).

Travel day

There is an International Room where all guests are invited to network and discuss future cooperation possibilities. We also offer lunch in the International Room on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. You are invited on Wednesday for the International evening with dinner. This evening is an excellent opportunity to meet with all the other guests and enjoy the delights of Belgian cuisine and conversation with both incoming and Belgian colleagues. 

We annually have about 30-40 people from about 10 different countries taking part in our International and Intercultural Week. Needless to say that this event gives you the opportunity to extend your personal international network.

Due to limitation in the program schedule, we can only accept 40 teachers. The selection will be made on the Abstract Proposals.

This teaching mobility can be financed by ERASMUS+ through your institution’s International Office provided there is an Erasmus+ agreement between your institution and VIVES (B KORTRIJ 01). Guest lecturers will receive a certificate stating that they have taken part in teaching activities amounting to 8 hours. If there is no Erasmus+ agreement at present, but you would like to have one drawn up, please contact [email protected], head of the international office at VIVES-SAW.

Fees and Costs

There is no participation fee for the International and Intercultural Week. However the participants are responsible for most of the costs (including travel, accommodation and evening meals).

However, there are many other alternatives in Kortrijk. The website of the tourist information centre in Kortrijk is a good place to start your search for a more unique place to stay.
