As a student at VIVES University of Applied Sciences, you will regularly have to write numerous texts, maintain calculation tables or make presentations. This can be done online via Microsoft 365 or with an Microsoft package that you install on your computer.

Practical information

In addition to well-known packages such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, MS Teams is also available with which a video meeting can be set up. This can be e.g. in the context of a one-to-one conversation between a teacher and you. Video meetings as part of a course unit are organised from Toledo using the Class Collaborate tool.

There are two ways to gain access via the known applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint ... You can do this online in the browser or locally on your computer.

Online via your Microsoft 365 account

Microsoft 365 is a suite within Academic software. You can log in to the Microsoft 365 online environment via Academic Software. The video further down this page shows you how to do this.

Another method of accessing Microsoft 365 is via your webmail. How to log in to the webmail is explained at Webmail for students. Once logged in, you can access these applications via the menu at the top left.

Your account remains valid until the end of the re-enrolment period in the academic year you graduate or deregister; this is early September.

Local installation on your computer

However, you can also download and install the full Microsoft 365 package on your computer on up to 5 devices. This works for both Windows and Mac. You can download the software from Academic Software. After downloading and installing, you will be prompted to log in with your Microsoft 365 account. This is your [email protected] (e.g. [email protected]) and your password. The video further down this page explains how to access downloading the package to your computer from Academic Software.

All 5 licenses are managed online through your Microsoft 365 account. There you can, for example, revoke a license and make it available for another device.

Again, you can use Microsoft 365 locally on your PC via your Microsoft 365 account until the end of the re-registration period in the academic year that you are graduating or deregistering; this is at the beginning of September. After that, you have the option to switch to a personal license.
